Always Bring A Tripod (even a small one) – Debre Libanos Monastery
by John Downey
While accompanying some visitors ninety minutes north of Addis Ababa to the small town of Debre Libanos, I decided to not bring an SLR because I knew time (and patience) would be limited. So, with a G11 and a small Manfrotto tabletop tripod, I was able to capture the flame of a priest’s candle as he walked it to light several others across the monastery. For this shot, I didn’t have much time before the priest disappeared, so I went with aperture priority at f8, ISO at 100 and six seconds of open shutter.
