Cherry Blossoms #2 – Black and White Night Photography
by John Downey
…or early morning. A little bit of snow was not as dramatic as expected (a good thing for the cherry trees) and it was darn cold (but worth the visit). What I like about all three frames here are the strong compositional elements and absence of color that warrant conversion to black and white. Night (or early morning) photography is great for visualizing in black and white, especially away from otherwise color-saturated central urban environments (where color is not necessarily bad).
The last frame is another version of the shots in the previous post slideshow. The composition works well in both color and black and white.
