Night Photography – Walking Lalibela (in the rain)

by John Downey

I shot these using a G11 and waterproof housing.  The camera stayed dry.  I did not.

Even with a rain jacket, when you’re holding a camera, water drains from your hands all the way down to the nether areas.  Amazingly miserable.  But the upshot to this evening was a decent hotel with hot water to shower off grit and a full pour of Chianti for post-processing (for these, nothing but a square crop).  Night photography can yield some interesting results.  You may not even realize what you get by checking the viewfinder.  Like waiting for a print to resolve in the developer.
